I was half-expecting all of the stories in this book to be about zombies, but I was quite pleasantly surprised to see quite a wide variety of different story types, all - yes - with a twisted edge to them.
I think there was a lot about the darker side of human nature in these stories. Dynamic Genetix is a good example of that. If those creatures were ever created in reality, I could see the events of the story happening. Humans can have very dark sides to them, even if they seem outwardly perfectly normal.
A Boy and His Zombie was probably one of the more disturbing stories in this collection. Again, it was something I could actually see happening. Although the zombie was a mindless creature, I felt sorry for it, in a way. Of course, I'd imagine the zombie, now that it was free, would be able to feed and make more of its kind very quickly.
An Eye for An Eye was quite a disturbing story, too, as well as Mortal Ink, though both in very different ways. They were more about the disturbing nature of humans than anything supernatural.
There was one story that, in my opinion, didn't really seem to fit in with the anthology. I didn't think A Shared Experience was all that twisted or disturbing. It even took me a while to find it again so I could name the story here.
I did notice a few punctuation errors in the stories - especially with people speaking. It had this:
'Blah blah blah." She said.
'Blah blah blah," she said.
I did find this selection of short stories very entertaining to read - and I'm definitely curious enough to check out this author's other books when I have the time and money to look at buying more things to read. I'd recommend this for anyone interested in strange, twisted, disturbing stories.
